There are rumors that the 2016 Oscars Best Director winner Alejandro Inarritu snubbed costume designer Jenny Beaven during her winning moment at the recently concluded 88th Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

A 10-second video clip circulating online seems to show an indifferent Inarritu, which was interpreted by many as a sign of scorn and rebuff.

Inarritu told The Guardian, however, that as the clip was edited, and as a reult the reality and truth in the moment was lost.

"By editing and omitting the full reality and suggesting I felt anything but admiration is mean-spirited and false," said the award-winning director.

"The Revenant" film maker provided a clip showing that he was, indeed, clapping during Beavan's win.

"I think Jenny Beavan is a masterful costume designer and very deserving of the Oscar for Mad Max: Fury Road," added Inarritu.

Beavan, a London-based costume designer, is a two-time Academy Awards winner for best costume design for "A Room with a View" (1986) and the recently awarded "Mad Max: Fury Road." She did the costume design of many other films including "The Bostonians" in 1984, "Sense and Sensibility" in 1995, "Anna and the King" in 1999, and "The King's Speech" in 2010, among others.

During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Beavan said, "People don't have to clap for you. They don't have to like the work. Honestly, I didn't clap the whole time - your hands get tired. We had done a huge amount of clapping by that time."

"Mad Max: Fury Road" bagged five other awards at the 2016 Oscars including Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design, and Best Sound Editing.

"The Revenant," on the other hand, bagged Best Director for Inarritu and a Best Actor trophy for Leonardo DiCaprio.
