US Presidential candidate Donald Trump leads the race for the Republican presidential nomination after winning Michigan, Hawaii, and Mississippi on Tuesday. The race for the coveted GOP (Grand Old Party) nomination for presidency is getting heated as Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, on the other hand won, over Idaho in a close match against Trump.

Tuesday's grabs, however, were far different from last week's Super Tuesday as this week's involved only 150 well-awarded delegates. This somehow suggests that the results will not drastically change the present status of the GOP battle. The race currently has Trump leading securely over Florida's Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio's Gov. John Kasich.

The result is an apparent sign of victory for Trump, who has been able to maintain the strength of his lead despite the continuous negative attacks he receives from his rivals.

Despite enduring a hefty deal of debates and political onslaught from his opponents, Trump seems to be performing where it matters. In Michigan, he won the hearts of Republicans when he fueled a discussion on politicians and federal government in Washington. In Mississippi, he was supported by the majority of the Republicans as opposed to Cruz - even after his endorsement from Mississippi State Governor, Phil Bryant.

Trump, 69, used to be affiliated with the Democrats from 1987 to 1999 and from 2001 to 2009, supporting candidates such as President Bill Clinton. From 1999 to 2001, he was an avid supporter of the Reform Party and switched to being independent in 2011 and 2012. He has remained a Republican since his transfer back to the party in 2012.
