Ralph Lauren will debut its biometric smart shirt at this year's U.S. Open.

The luxury clothing brand's Polo Tech is a compression shirt with biometric sensors that will act like an extremely sophisticated fitness band without having anything around your wrist.

The sensors are knitted into the core of the shirt. It includes a gyroscope, accelerometer, and heartbeat monitor.

Information is collected by a data module and fed into an iOS app that monitors stress levels, respiration, calories burned, energy output and heartbeat.

Polo Tech, however, won't be worn by any of the top ranked tennis stars during the actual tournament.

Instead, the current top singles player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Marcos Giron, will test the smart shirt during practice rounds.

As Giron plays, the shirt will try to make some adjustments based on the information gleaned from the sensors.

Some ball collectors will sport the smart shirt at the U.S. Open. You can spot them wearing the tight black shirts with a yellow polo horse and not the traditional loose polo-style shirts.

Ralph Lauren teamed up with OMsignal, a biometrics clothing maker, to create Polo Tech.

OMsignal is now offering preorders of its version of the shirt and a black-box data collector for US$199. The smart shirt, however, is only available for men.

OMsignal is planning to expand the shirts for both men and women by the end of the year but without the embossed yellow Polo logo.
