Badminton News: Lin Dan of China Beats Jan Jorgensen of Denmark to Reach All England Semifinals

All England Badminton Championships five-time winner Lin Dan of China rallied from one set down to overcome the tournament's third seed Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark to advance to the semifinal round of the prestigious competition on Friday.

Lin, the current world No. 4 in the Badminton World Federation rankings, fought back after losing the first set to prevail 10-21 21-9 21-15 and set a semifinal showdown with the unseeded countryman Xue Song.

"It reminded me of the world championships defeat," Lin, who lost to the No.5 Jorgensen in the world championships in Jarkarta last year, said after the match. "I will not let that happen again."

Lin, who currently has a record of 561 wins and 75 losses garnered 76,237 points in 17 tournaments, said that he watched many Jorgensen's matches on video and tried hard to learn the lessons after his last year's defeat. He also added that he made very good preparations for the match.

Lin is a two-time Olympic champion, winning gold medals in the Beijing 2008 and in London 2012. He is a five-time world champion reigning in the years 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013. He also ruled All England in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2012.

The Chinese badminton star is the oldest player left in the draw at the age of 32. He is the first and only player to ever win all nine major titles in the world of badminton.

Lin will fight for the final place against teammate Xue Song, who labored to beat the current world No. 6 Viktor Axelsen of the Denmark, 21-19, 23-25, 21-11.

"We are very familiar with each other, " Lin said of the 22-year-old Xue. "He played extremely well this time. But I will try my best."

Xue is the current world No. 30 and has a record of 83 wins and 32 losses. He reached his career high in single as the world No. 17 on August 27, 2015 and garnered a total of 37420 points.
