A new report by the CDC shows that there was a decline in the number of cancer-related deaths in the US between 2002 and 2013.

Statistics in he United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) annual Report to the Nation shows that there has been a continual decline in the rate of cancer-related deaths in the country. Although this may be good news, along with the report also comes data showing an increase in liver cancer-related deaths across the nation.

The report further stated that cancer in the liver has become the most prominent for both males and females. Recorded incidents of deaths caused by liver cancer have also sharply increased over the years.

For both male and female cancer patient, a decrease of 1.5 percent a year in cancer-related death rates has been noted. This covers the period from year 2003 to 2012. The continuous development, according to CDC, may be credited to the advancement in the country over the years.

Early detection and thorough prevention have also been some of the reasons for the decline in cancer-related deaths. The CDC mentioned in the report that the government's effort to control the distribution of tobacco in the country has also lowered the lung cancer rates in the US. The said dreaded disease is the leading cause of death related to cancer for both males and females in the States.

Other related liver diseases found noteworthy in contributing to liver cancer include hepatitis C (HCV), hepatitis B (HBV), obesity, and type 2 diabetes. CDC Director Tom Frieden mentions that the "growing burden of liver cancer is troublesome." He urges that more testing, vaccination, curing, and treatment should be done to combat the disease.

The Report to the Nation is released every year through the combined effort of the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, the National Cancer Institute, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Cancer Society.
