While a lot of smartphone fans are probably familiar with Vivo's Mobile brand, they've certainly never heard of Vernee. Vernee is a new Chinese smartphone company founded in February 2016. According to reports, the company is already preparing to release its products into the market, among them is the Vernee Apollo.

Specs-wise, here's how Vernee's new flagship device could take on Vivo's recently released XPlay 5 Elite.

Vivo XPlay 5 Elite

The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite is the first smartphone in the world to pack 6GB of RAM under its hood. It is accompanied by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset, a massive 128GB of non-expandable built-in memory storage and a 3,600 mAh battery with fast charging capability.

This phone features a 5.43-inch Super AMOLED display screen with a 1,440 x 2,560 pixel resolution (Quad HD), and is equipped with a 16 megapixel camera on the back and an 8 megapixel camera on the front. The handset comes with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box along with the Funtouch OS 2.6 on top.

The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite also includes Hi-Fi 3.0 dual stereo speakers, dual-SIM functionality, a rear-facing fingerprint sensor and support for LTE connectivity. In terms of the design, the device sports a metallic body with a dual-edge display screen. The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite is currently available in the Chinese market for around US$655.

Vernee Apollo

The Vernee Apollo, on the other hand, features a 5.5-inch screen with a 1,440 x 2,560 pixel resolution (Quad HD). It also runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and comes with MediaTek's latest Helio X20 processor inside.

The Apollo smartphone sports a powerful 21 megapixel (Sony IMX230) rear-facing camera, and an 8 megapixel front-facing shooter. The chipset is accompanied by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. Other specs include a fingerprint scanner, Force Touch, and support for USB Type-C port connector and 4G LTE connectivity. The colors available for the phone are black or silver.

The Vernee Apollo is expected to be available sometime next month, however, it's still unclear how much it will cost.
