FIBA World Cup: Other Than Brazil, Who Poses a Threat Towards Team USA?

Team USA have confirmed its 12-man roster, as the FIBA World Cup is only a few days away and set to begin on Aug 30. The only questions now regarding Team USA are whether they're going to be able to steamroll past international competition like previous years have shown.

It's not going to be as easy this time around considering top-tier players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, and more are all out due to personal reasons or injuries.

Everyone knows Spain is a big threat for Team USA, and I'll be going into detail about the Spanish in an article that'll be posted later on today, but who else can cause USA problems during the FIBA World Cup?

Greece has given Team USA some troubles in the past with a major upset in the 2006 FIBA World Championship. They now have the addition of young forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, also known as the Greek Freak, who is 6'11" with a 7'4" wingspan while being extremely athletic for his size.

He recently showed just how much athleticism he possesses, as he went coast to coast for a score in only TWO DRIBBILES during an exhibition game against Turkey.

Although Antetokounmpo is still young and very raw as a basketball player, he's so athletic that he's also able play the point guard position - something that could potentially cause some major mismatches against Team USA.  However, everything needs to go perfectly for Greece to be able to pull another upset.

Many people talk about Spain's big-men, but many fans seem to forget the frontcourt of Brazil's Tiago Splitter, Anderson Varejao and Nene having the talent and experience to cause USA some problems as well.

USA can match Brazil talent-wise having frontcourt players like DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, Drummond and Plumlee, but won't be able to match Brazil's experience. Those four USA frontcourt players mentioned all combine for a total of 9 years in the NBA, but Varejao alone has 10 years of experience under his belt.

Nene will have the ability to stretch the floor with his deadly mid-range shooting, possibly even stretching it out to three-point range. Splitter and Varejao both have a very high basketball IQ with the ability to set up their teammates with open shots, as well as providing interior defense.

They may not be the most talented bunch, but their experience and professional success has taught them to do all the little things like cutting to the basket, setting good screens, and running lethal pick-and-rolls. This will allow Brazil to play with a chip on their shoulder and possess the possibility of being able to upset Team USA if everything goes according to their plan.
