Pryor's grandmother, Marie Carter, raised the late comic in a brothel she owned and ran.

Daniels also posted the same photo on his Instagram with the text "And we're off...Get ready y'all."

Nick Cannon, who has been going through recent domestic disputes with wife Mariah Carey, had been very vocal about wanting to play Richard Pryor onscreen. Cannon was said to have even grown his hair and taught himself to smoke with his left hand like the comedian used to in an effort to convince execs and the late actor's son that he was perfect for the role.

Aside from Cannon, Epps also managed to beat more famous comedians for the role, including Marlon Wayans and Eddie Murphy.

Over the weekend the comedian posted an Instagram photo of himself with Jennifer Lee Pryor, the late comic's wife, who has given him her stamp of approval. "Had to kiss the ring of @jennferLpryor for the blessing ! you got to be strong to have been with the king," he captioned the photo.

However, Jennifer Lee Pryor took to social media earlier to claim that Pryor's kids were not happy about he project. Pryor was married seven times to five different women.

Richard Pryor was one of the comedy greats and as Bill Cosby characterized him, he "drew the line between comedy and tragedy as thin as one could possibly paint it."

After a successful career that spanned more than three decades, Richard Pryor died in 2005 from a heart attack. He was 65 years old.
