Dropbox has announced big changes to its Dropbox Pro offering.

Some of the changes include more storage space and better sharing options.

The file hosting service is merging its three Pro account options into one plan that costs US$9.99 monthly. The new plan includes 1 TB of storage and added controls for document sharing and security.

The company previously offered Dropbox Pro with 100 GB storage for US$9.99 per month. The 200 GB storage costs US$19.99 a month and its 500 GB storage was US$49.99 a month.

Dropbox Pro is designed for freelancers, contractors and other workers who want to have more space and tools that come with the free Basic plan, which starts with 2 GB.

Aside from bigger storage space, the plan also integrated several features for collaboration projects with clients.

For documents, there's "view-only" permissions to allow clients to see mock-ups of a project without making any changes to it.

Users can also use the password-protect links feature for documents and folders.

A remote wipe feature is also added to the Dropbox plan. For example, users that lose their mobile phones can log in from another device and stop Dropbox from syncing files to that lost mobile phone. Users can also delete files next time it comes online.

If users are existing Dropbox customers and decided to subscribe to a higher plan, they'll get a reduction on their monthly bill or pro-rated refund for the service.

The new Dropbox Pro plan aims to provide a more compelling option for those users who want to pay for more online storage.

Dropbox continuously competes against bigger competitors like Microsoft and Google, which are currently slashing their prices and increasing the storage they offer.

Microsoft OneDrive for business offers 1 TB for just US$2.50 a month or US$30 a year.

Google Drive offers 1 TB of storage for US$9.99 a month without the offer of an annual option.

Dropbox remains one of the more expensive services.
