Panasonic Unveils Lumix GX85 with 4K Video and Advanced Stabilization

Panasonic has unveiled its new Lumix GX85, a smaller with convenient design and high-end fundamentals interchangeable lens camera lineup.

The new camera lineup is design for photography enthusiasts who want a high-quality camera that’s smaller and easier to manage than a DSLR. In addition, it features interchangeable lenses, making an attractive alternative from a smartphone camera.

The Panasonic Lumix GX85 will arrive in May with a price tag of $800 for a camera and a bundled 12-32mm lens kit. The camera comes in black and silver colors.

Its features are combination from great Lumix GX8 and DSLR-like Lumix. Compared to the two cameras GX85 is more compact. The body is just less than two inches deep, less than five inches wide, and weighs about a pound only. Lumix GX85 also features the most powerful stabilization system.

The compact camera features a 16MP Live MOS sensor and a new Venus Engine processor and up to 8-fps continuous shooting and in-camera image stabilization. To capture sharp and and color-accurate pictures, GX85 did not contain the low-pass filter.

It has 4K features, offering extra sharpness and stabilization features should come in handy. The camera can record 4K video at 24 and 30fps, as well as 1080p at 60 fps. Its 4K burst mode aids in capturing 30 images per second at 8-megapixel resolution, a 4K buffering mode that records 30 frames before and after taking the shot. It has also a 4K cropping mode where user can extract HD video from a 4K recording, adding zoom and pan-and-scan effects within the camera.

The GX85 uses 49 areas from its autofocus system called Post Focus to record every single focal point. After the taking the shot, user would tap anywhere on the 3-inch screen to choose they preferred focus area, ending up having 49 different pictures. Other key specs include an ISO range of 100-25,600, RAW/RAW+JPEG shooting, and in-camera Wi-Fi features.

With the GX85, Panasonic is bringing some of its more advanced technologies and features down to a more accessible price.
