Speculations abound that La Liga giants Real Madrid and its superstar scorer Cristiano Ronaldo is headed for a split this summer for a transfer fee of only £48 million as the relationship between club and player is allegedly deteriorating as the days pass.

Caught Offside noted that the 31-year-old forward "may be tired of Madrid" as rumors of internal discord continues to hover around the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Ronaldo's goal scoring may be unaffected by the mess as he currently leads La Liga with 29 goals in 31 contests, but his happiness with the Spain capital city squad may not be what it used to be because of Los Blancos' recent "numerous shakeups" and the club's "commitment to Gareth Bale as their superstar of the future".

This triggered the question of is it really possible for Real and Ronaldo to break up anytime soon especially since the Portugal team captain would surely necessitate a massive transfer fee?

In an interview with SkySports after last weekend's 2-1 El Clásico win by Los Vikingos, Spanish football journalist and pundit Guillem Balague said that it is possible that Real will let go of Ronaldo for a transfer fee of only £48 million this summer because only a few teams could afford his initial release clause and those teams actually don't need a player like him anymore.

Real is said to be keen on unloading Ronaldo in the near future as it aims to overhaul their attacking crew as the club hopes to stay at par with arch-rival FC Barcelona.

"I've been saying all season both Ronaldo and Real Madrid have been, in different ways, looking for a way out this summer," said Balague. "The problem at the moment is no one seems able to pay all the money that Ronaldo incurs, meaning about £48m (€60m) that Madrid may want plus the wages, which will be £16m-£20m (€20-25m) net."

The sports columnist also speculated that Paris Saint-Germain could be the top transfer destination for the Manchester United target, although the Ligue 1 champions are not showing enough interest yet to ensure such scenario.
