Viewers were treated to an exclusive new footage of the upcoming Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures film Kong: Skull Island at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards.

During the MTV Movie Awards pre-show, the network aired a never-before-seen clip from the set of the film, which is the second installment in the Godzilla-Kong cinematic universe after 2014's Godzilla.

The two-minute video clip shows interviews with the stars, glimpses of fiery blazes at night, humungous skeletons and soldiers making their way through the jungles of the mysterious island.

The film features Oscar-winner Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Goodman, Toby Kebbell, and Jing Tian among others. Jordan Vogt-Roberts directed the film while the script was written by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy, and Derek Connally.

"There are strange new creatures, mythic beasts, that come into their midst and they have to get off this island alive," Hiddleston said in the sneak peak. "Kong appears in this film as you've never seen him before."

The Thor actor plays the role of a former British Special Air Service officer who leads a team of explorers, including Larson, who portrays a journalist and peace activist, and Vietnam-era soldiers into uncharted territory. The group takes a trip to the dangerous undiscovered skull island, home to the mythical beast named King Kong, in search of a mythical serum.

"I don't want to spoil too much... But it's a whole new re-conception of the mythology," Hiddleston said about the film during a radio interview last month.

"It essentially follows a group of disparate travelers and explorers and soldiers who travel to an undiscovered island in the South Pacific. And it's set in a time period where you could conceive that there are still undiscovered places on the earth."

"What they find on the island is surprising, and then every character has a very different response to it. It's going to be spectacular and epic, but also the human drama is kind of interesting as well," he added.

Kong: Skull Island is slated to hit theaters on March 10, 2017.
