Microsoft will issue and update its rebranded cloud-based file sharing and storage service, OneDrive, as part of a new attempt to attract more users.

The company also wants to set itself apart from competitors such as Apple's iCloud, Dropbox, Box and Google Drive.

The Android, iOS and Windows Phone versions of the app are all being updated and will receive new features. But the Android app will offer the most number of changes and will be used to push OneDrive for Business.

Microsoft has chosen the Android operating system for a huge integration play on OneDrive. It's aiming at a group of users that are a mix of high maintenance business people and avid consumers called prosumers.

For the first time, Microsoft wants to offer OneDrive subscribers the capability to collect pictures and other documents they create as individuals alongside what other users of the service are creating and using at work.

The concept is not unlike Evernote's. Documents from Evernote's app, Evernote Business, are stored alongside files in a subscriber's personal account.

OneDrive subscribers are offered a method of viewing files across both sides of their smartphone-centric lives, according to Tech Crunch. Microsoft stated the idea behind the change is a solution that "holistically addresses" the needs of every user.

The launch of OneDrive for Business will separate files for work from other important documents. Both types remain accessible from the same account and same program.

If a user likes a more secure hold on confidential files, he can lock the specific files that only become accessible with a four-digit pin the subscriber can set-up.
