The National Football Association (NFL) recently fined Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, for taunting Houston Texans safety DJ Swearinger.

During a preseason game, Manning threw a touchdown pass from 30 yards away to receiver Emmanuel Sanders. Afterwards, Manning trotted over to Swearinger, clashed helmets and let some words fly.

His actions came after Broncos receiver, Wes Welker, receive yet another concussion at the hands of Swearinger who hit Welker on the hand. While there was a 15 yard penalty, there was no talk of a fine.

This was Welker's third concussion in 10 months.

The NFL did not grant any exception to Manning, given that it was the first time he had been associated with this kind of altercation. He was penalized US $8,200, the standard penalty, for it.

Manning commented that the foul came at the exact opportune time, with only five seconds to go in the game. He said that if there was ever a good time to get a foul and a 15 yard penalty that would be the best time.

When he got the news about the penalty, he did not try to appeal the situation. Manning simply accepted it and, in a later interview, called it an investment.

"Money well spent," commented Manning.

Sanders received his touchdown catch from Manning, and another one in less than two minutes to close off the half.

Linebacker Von Miller returned to action since he tore his ACL from last season, while running back Montee Ball played impressively after his appendectomy earlier in the month.

Despite the good performances, Manning said that their team "stunk." The Texans eventually rallied and won, 18-17.
