A new viral marketing video released by 20th Century Fox ahead of the upcoming film's official release in May explores the origins of Oscar Isaac's titular villain En Sabah Nur (a.k.a. Apocalypse).

The video posted on Screen Crush was entitled "In the Footsteps of... En Sabah Nur" with George Takei of 'Star Trek' as the narrator. It is inspired by the original 'In Search of...' documentary series by Takei's co-star Leonard Nimoy.

It re-used footage of Mystique's failed assassination scene from the film 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' and paid homage to the late Nimoy in true 1970s-1980s vintage style.

Takei's narration gave way to visuals of Apocalypse as well as the pyramids of Egypt and other relics. The video was presented in a classic advertisement style for a television special.

It featured Apocalypse as a mysterious ancient and all-powerful mutant, who has awakened after thousands of years to destroy humanity with the help of his four horsemen.

In addition to the marketing video, Fox also put together an infographic detailing Apocalypse's history and timeline. The infographic detailed the villain's exploits since the dawn of civilization including casualty counts for each unfortunate event.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' is an upcoming superhero film intended as the ninth installment in the 'X-Men' cinematic series. It is directed by Bryan Singer and penned for the big screen by Simon Kinberg. It is scheduled to be released on May 27, 2016.
