Supergiant Games, the highly acclaimed studio behind equally acclaimed role-playing games like Bastion and Transistor, recently unveiled its latest creation dubbed only as Pyre. The game is expected to be launched by 2017 and the gaming community is already abuzz considering the reputation of its developer.

Supergiant Games said that Pyre will be released on the PlayStation 4 and Windows PC simultaneously. The developer did not provide a specific release window but promised that it will be sometime next year.

"Pyre once again showcases our team's commitment to rich atmospheric presentation and storytelling, along with a distinctive gameplay blend that combines expressive decision-making on the world map with fast, action-packed confrontations against rival groups of exiles whose own freedom is at stake," Pyre said in a statement. 

Players will lead a group of exiles as they compete through an ancient competition which spreads across a vast and mystical purgatory. The winners of the competition will be awarded their freedom. The ultimate prize of the competition is the absolution of all the crimes committed by the contestants. By winning the competition, winners will be allowed to return to their home.

Along with the official announcement of the game, Supergiant Games also released a trailer video for the game. The trailer highlighted some of the game's gameplay mechanics and impressive graphic design.

Supergiant Games said that the game will make an official appearance at PAX East due to open its doors this weekend. The developer added that it will continue to put out regular updates about the development of the game in order make sure that fans are in touch.

Pyre already has its own Steam page should fans want to add it to their wish list. Supergiant Games also created a mailing list for fans to keep in touch with the development of the game.
