Both Sony and Microsoft have recently announced the upcoming "big updates" for their next-gen console platforms. These updates are to boost the ultimate gaming experience, and are said to be incorporated into the system very soon.

The PS4 'V2' update is a big technology boost in its multiplayer capabilities, landing an online/multiplayer hybrid feature on the new system. Xbox One is also receiving some of the much anticipated and innovative upgrades such as, receiving remote purchase functionality in its marketplace capabilities, while improving the abilities of its blue-ray player.

Xbox One:

Microsoft's latest updates have already been heading the streets, so to speak. With its already global reach, it brings with it both minor and significant changes. Many of Microsoft's latest features are included in the recently released update; however, Microsoft still has a few "specialties up their sleeve."

Microsoft tells users to gear up for these highly anticipated 'specialties' to be launched by late 2014.

Recently, the network developers have been putting effort into the ability for users to remotely purchase games. This feature will allow the user to purchase games via tablet, Smartphone, or directly from the Xbox website. If the users' console is set to receive automatic updates, the users will be able to download a digital version of a specific game, remotely.

This particular feature has been creating a lot of 'buzz' for the fact that current-gen games can have an exceptionally long download time, due to the size of the file being downloaded.

With this feature you can initiate the download before you're even off from work or out of school. That way there is a glimmer of hope that we'll be playing by 'sundown' - making this a nice, convenient addition to this system.

Another feature that has been amped up for the next-gen consoles is the system's activity stream feature. The new layout of the feed incorporates traits you would normally see in certain social networking platforms; including the ability to post comments, game clips, and even watch or like what others have posted.

Microsoft also reveals that they will be making "big tweaks" to the capabilities of its blue-ray player and features.

PlayStation 4:

Sony's update is expected to launch sometime in autumn of 2014. Though their release date is some time behind Microsoft's, it does not make this update anything short of spectacular. Some analysts believe that, with these updates, Sony is changing the direct of gaming, as we know it.

Sony associates describe this new feature as a "virtual couch," and indeed, that description is precisely what it is. Sony has developed an online/local co-op hybrid system that allows friends to join each other's 'sessions in-progress' without having to actually posses a copy of the game itself.

All games that support the new feature will allow users to share their multiplayer features with a friend, ultimately allowing them to jump in any game with you, as if they were right next to you on the couch.

Sony says players will even be able to virtually co-op in campaign modes, taking control of singer player, allowing friends to lend a helping hand if you're having difficulties in a particular part of the game.

Sounds like a great feature and addition to the PlayStation Network. However, one would be curious to when or how many or titles will actually support the feature.
