Scandal actor Columbus Short has failed a drug test and is facing a probation violation charge in connection to a felony assault case, according to court records.

As per court documents, Short tested positive for cocaine and marijuana use and after learning of the failed drug test, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Leslie E. Brown ordered the 33-year-old to appear in court on May 9 for a hearing in connection with the matter.

In 2014, Short punched and knocked out a man at a Los Angeles restaurant, which left the man with a concussion and a fractured eye socket and pleaded no contest to a felony count of assault likely to cause great bodily injury in September.

Short was sentenced to three years of supervised probation in addition to two months of community labor and anger management classes. He was also ordered to pay the victim, Fenton Hyche II, restitution in excess of $14,000.

Short announced his exit from Scandal after being charged in the assault case and a separate domestic-violence case involving his ex-wife, Tanee McCall-Short.

In a 2014 interview with Access Hollywood, Short touched on substance abuse and how it was the root of all of his problems and the reason behind his departure from the hit ABC show.

"I'll be candid. I was struggling with drugs, I had a lot on my plate, and you know, I was using unhealthy ways to kind of self-medicate and deal with a lot of heavy duty stuff in my life," he said at the time, before adding that he was using "real drugs" like cocaine and was also drinking alcohol to "balance a 16-hour work schedule a day, and a family, and, I just lost myself back then."
