According to police, the 20-year-old intruder was charged with murder, attempted murder, criminal mischief, burglary, false personation, and criminal possession of a weapon.

On Sunday night, the Gialluisi couple caught Viggiano in the act of robbing their home. Panicked, he went into a stabbing spree, killing 67-year-old Peter Gialluisi who had just suffered a stroke and was using a walker to get around the house.

Though gravely injured from the encounter, Gialluisi's 66-year-old wife, Vincenza was able to run out of the house to look for help.

She was covered in blood while screaming for help, saying that a burglar had killed her husband.

David DiDia, a visiting relative of one of their neighbors immediate rushed to help. He then found the 67-year-old man unconscious inside.

"He was on the second step up, laying on his back. He was still breathing," DiDia stated.

Both victims were rushed to the hospital, where the husband later died. Meanwhile, reports stated that his wife's condition has been stabilized.

Before detaining him, the suspect was first taken to the hospital to treat cuts in his hands and arms. These wounds were clear indicators that the dead victim's wife had fought back.

Reports indicate that Viggiano had been involved in several arrests including a recent burglary incident a few weeks ago.

After the encounter, the 20-year-old suspect returned to their home in Armstrong Avenue, around 3 miles from the Gialluisi home.

A call from a concerned citizen who lives nearby prompted Viggiano's arrest, citing that he was mentally ill.
