Zhang, 24, holds the Chinese indoor record of 2.33 meters and has represented his country in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

"My performance was not very good but I am satisfied with the silver, my form was not steady after the indoor world championships and I still can't adjust my new shoes, I hope I can restore my form gradually," Zhang said.

The 2016 World Indoor Championship winner Dong Bin also gave China silver as the two-time Asian Indoor Athletics Championships gold medalist jumped 17.07 meters in the men's triple jump, just a slim 0.16 meters behind Christian Taylor of the United States, who claimed gold.

Meanwhile, the 2015 Beijing World Championships silver medalist Lyu Huihui finished third place in the women's javelin throw event to bring home a bronze medal for her country. The 26-year-old Xinxiang native recorded 62.42 meters while the South African javelin thrower Sunette Viljoen took the gold medal with her season-best 65.14 meters.

China's Li Ling, the current Asian record holder, got 4.63 meters to rank fourth in the women's pole vault event. American Sandi Morris finished first with a record of 4.83 meters.

Jamaican Hurdler Omar McLeod continued to showcase his gift of speed in the 110m hurdle as the 22-year-old defeated his compatriot Hansle Parchment, updating his world record to 13.05 seconds.
