'Fast 8' has made modern movie history by being the first ever Hollywood production to film in Cuba. A new behind-the-scenes video has been released featuring actor and producer Vin Diesel.

'Fast 8' is currently being filmed in Cuba under director F. Gary Gray ahead of its scheduled release in April 2017. Lead actor Vin Diesel said in a newly released behind-the-scenes video that the film is "the first global Hollywood movie to be allowed" to film in the Caribbean country.

This statement follows the improved political relationship between Cuba and the United States after long-standing animosity between the two nations. Diesel is set to reprise his role as Dominic Toretto, an ex-criminal and professional street racer who has long gone into retirement with his wife Letty, played by Michelle Rodriguez.

Joining Diesel and Rodriguez in the upcoming sequel are Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Lucas Black and Scott Eastwood. Charlize Theron has also signed on to play a yet unnamed villain while Eva Mendez is rumored to be set to make a return as Monica Fuentes.

Principal photography commenced in Myvatn, Iceland on March 2016. The movie will take the cast and crew to several global locations including Dubai and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Filming in Cuba's capital Havana began in late April.

Filming is also scheduled to take place in Ohio, Atlanta, and New York, according to Entertainment Weekly. 'Fast 8' is the first film in a planned final trilogy under the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise.

The upcoming action-thriller film is being directed by F. Gary Gray of 'Straight Outta Compton' fame. It is written by Chris Morgan and produced by Vin Diesel, Michael Fottrell, and Neal H. Moritz.

This is the eighth installment in the long-running popular 'Fast and the Furious' cinematic franchise, which consists of a series of action films centered on illegal street racing as well as heists. It is scheduled to be released on April 14, 2017.
