Ties Between China and Great Britain to Remain Unshaken by Queen’s 'Very Rude' Remark: Chinese Media

The diplomatic ties between China and Great Britain will not be affected by the fact that Queen Elizabeth was caught in a video footage saying that Chinese officials were "very rude" during President Xi Jinping's visit to London last year, a state-owned Chinese newspaper said on Thursday.

The Global Times, part of state-owned People's Daily newspaper, said it is unthinkable that British officials had purposely leaked the video because such an action would be "truly boorish and rude."

The newspaper criticized the western media for reveling in gossip and over-indulging in yellow journalism.

"The disrespectful gossipers in the media there, narcissistic and baring their fangs, seemingly retain vestiges of the inelegance of barbarians," the newspaper said.

China's Foreign Ministry has also downplayed the Queen's comment and said both countries unilaterally agreed that Xi's trip last year was a great success.

On Wednesday, a video footage was shown across British media wherein Queen Elizabeth was caught saying that Chinese officials were "very rude."

Queen Elizabeth's remark came during her conversation with Metropolitan Police Commander Lucy D'Orsi at Buckingham Palace garden. The topic of their conversation was China's President Xi's visit to Great Britian last year.

President Xi visited Great Britain in October last year to boost diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Many have described Queen Elizabeth's remark as 'uncharacteristic.' During her 64-year reign, the Queen has never stroked any controversy with her personal remarks on political or international issues. However, other members of Britain's royal family have made personal comments about China.

In the 1980s, the Queen's husband, Prince Philip, warned a few British students in China that they would get "slitty eyes" if they stayed too long in the country.
