Huawei and Vodafone Unveil P9 and P9 Plus Smartphones in New Zealand

After launching the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus smartphones in several markets around the world, Chinese company Huawei, along with Vodafone NZ, has officially unveiled the devices in the New Zealand market. The Huawei P9 and P9 Plus have been launched with a "presale offer" on May 19, and are expected to be available starting June 1 via Vodafone's New Zealand website and retail stores.

According to Vodafone NZ, the first 100 buyers - "On Account Red customers" - will have the chance to get Huawei's Android-based Wear Watch free of charge, which comes with a price tag of $599.

Consumer Director Matt Williams of Vodafone said, "For Kiwis wanting to upgrade to the latest technology at a great price, the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus deliver exquisite craftsmanship, fingerprint security features, global connectivity and exceptional power and performance when paired with the Vodafone network,"

Specs-wise, the P9 measures 145 x 70.9 x 7 mm in dimensions, weighing about 144 grams, while the P9 Plus measures 152.3 x 75.3 x 7 mm, and weighs 162 grams. Both handsets were developed in collaboration with legendary German optics and high-quality camera manufacturer Leica. The devices have dual sensors each capable of capturing images with different colors: one sensor for colors (RGB), while the other is used for black and white photography (monochrome).

The P9 features a 5.2-inch display screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, dual 12 megapixel rear-facing cameras (Leica optics), 8 megapixel front-facing shooter, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and a 3,000 mAh battery.

As for the P9 Plus, it sports a larger 5.5-inch screen with the same 1,080 x 1,920 pixels along with 3D Touch display, dual 12 megapixel rear cameras (Leica optics), 8 megapixel front snapper, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of built-in memory, and a larger 3,400 mAh battery with fast charging capability.

Both devices come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box along with the Emotion UI 4.1 on top. They also have fingerprint sensors for advanced security. As of this time, the Huawei P9 is said to be available in grey and gold colors, while the P9 Plus is available in grey only.
