"Rocket League" has made history as the first ever video game to support cross-play between the Xbox One console and PC platform. The game's developer Pysonix announced on Tuesday that it is releasing an update for the Xbox version of the game to enable the cross-platform play between the console and PC players on Steam.

In a statement acquired by Engadget, Psyonix vice president Jeremy Dunham said, "Cross-network play has been something that Xbox One gamers have been asking us for since the day we launched and thanks to Microsoft's new cross-network policies, we're proud to give it to them."

"Rocket League" cross-play between the PlayStation 4 and PC platform has been available since the game was launched last year. However, the game was not released on the Xbox One console until this February. Back in March, tech giant Microsoft announced its intention to allow cross-platform play between the Xbox One console and other platforms. The company also named "Rocket League" as one of the first video game titles that will support the cross-play feature.

It is important to note that while "Rocket League" supports cross-play between PC and PlayStation 4, as well as between PC and Xbox One, this does not mean that the game will support cross-play between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, according to The Verge.

While Microsoft is open to the idea of cross-play between the two rival consoles, Sony appears to be a bit vague about the possibility. When asked about it, the company only said "we would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play."

Some tech analysts said that should "Rocket League" be able to support cross-platform between Xbox One and PlayStation 4, it might mark the end of the supposed console war and unite all gamers under a single network.
