The returning cast members will include series lead Jeffrey Tambor, together with Judith Light, Gaby Hoffman, Amy Landecker and Jay Duplass. Andrea Sperling will also join showrunner Jill Soloway as one of the executive producers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joe Lewis, the head of half-hour of Amazon Studios, released a statement following the renewal. "As the quality of television rises to new heights, Transparent continues to stand out for its depth of character, compassionate storytelling and its infinite creative risk-taking," he said.

Lewis thanked supporters of the show and said that they are looking forward to showing viewers another chapter of the Pfefferman family.

In past seasons, the half-hour dramedy received multiple awards and nominations. Tambor, who plays lead character Maura Pfefferman, has bagged a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award and an Emmy Award for his outstanding performance. In 2015, "Transparent" won the best comedy award at the Golden Globes.

The half-hour novelistic series tackles family, identity, sex and love. It mainly follows Tambor Maura, who has spent her life as the family patriarch. But when she unveils her new self to her family, everyone else's secrets are also revealed.

In the upcoming third season of the show, Caitlyn Jenner will make a guest appearance, Variety reported. The casting news was confirmed by creator/showrunner Jill Soloway, but details on Jenner's role is still being kept under wraps.
