The Cupertino-based tech giant, Apple, has maintained 16 GB of internal memory as the basic configuration since the launch of iPhone 4s in 2011. However, the company will reportedly ditch the 16 GB for 32 GB in the iPhone 7, besides the flagship coming with 2 GB of RAM.

When the manufacturer chose to venture into the smartphone market in 2007, it introduced a 4 GB base level iPhone model, which went for $499 when signing a new two-year deal with AT&T, and an 8 GB variant for $599, according to Tech Times. In February 2008, Apple introduced a new 16 GB variant.

The release of iPhone 5 in September 2012 marked the first iPhone iteration that came with 16 GB internal storage capacity. The company has continued with the same trend through its current flagship iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Apple has faced many criticisms for sticking to this trend, even as most phone manufacturers offer customers double the size as their base level options.

Seemingly, iPhone fans will finally receive what Android smartphone makers have been offering for some years now. The imminent iPhone 7 will reportedly ditch 16 GB as its base storage capacity for 32 GB.

Director of Market Research for HIS Technology, Kevin Wang, posted a message via Weibo claiming that his supply chain research reveals that iPhone 7's RAM is 2GB - similar to iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE - but its internal storage is 32 GB and above, according to MobiPicker. There are reports that the iPhone 7 Plus/Pro packs in 3 GB of RAM because of its dual-lens main camera imaging processing requirements.

Since there is no official statement from Apple, fans should take this information with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more information on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro as soon as it trickles in.
