Reports are out that Dwight Howard will most likely stick around in Houston next season and his former Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni, now current Rockets head coach, would be willing to "welcome" him if he decides so.

A reunion between the two personalities is not an exciting one for most Rockets fans as it should be noted that the 30-year-old Howard and D'Antoni did not have a good history in between them during their one season together with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012-2013.

The eight-time NBA All-Star center allegedly wants to play more with his back to the basket while the 65-year-old bench tactician, known as the inventor of the 07 Seconds or Less offense, prefers more pick-and-rolls and fast break attacks.

And as history told, the results with the Lakers that time was disastrous as the team could not find its own identity and had played with less than their full potential.

With the possibility of history repeating itself, general manager Daryl Morey was confident that his current squad will be able to avoid that, even though D'Antoni already hinted that Howard "may not love Houston's offensive schemes next season," Slam Online reported.

"He (coach Mike D'Antoni) would welcome him (Howard) back. We would welcome him back," Morey recently told Bleacher Report.

The report said that it was initially thought Howard would surely "be headed elsewhere" the moment Houston decided to hire D'Antoni as head coach in May. But recent rumors have emerged that the two may be willing to patch up their old differences.

Under former head coach Kevin McHale and interim coach JB Bickerstaff, Howard's usage and production had gradually dipped in the last three seasons. The three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year is said to be hoping that the trend will change with D'Antoni at the helm next season.

D'Antoni had recently acknowledged Howard as "one of the best players in the league", but he insisted that "we're going to play a certain way". This indicates that the ball is still in D'Antoni's hands as the Team USA coach seemingly gave out a warning to Howard by saying, "I hope he wants to play that way".
