U.S. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has described China as the "biggest and best abuser" of trade laws over the sale of cheap steel from the country in America and for stealing intellectual property from U.S. companies.

"China is the biggest and best abuser. Mexico is a smaller version of China," Trump told his supporters in Pittsburgh.

Trump warned China to behave or be ready for higher taxes. "If they do not behave, we will put tax on them. They (China) tax us. But we do nothing about it. This is a one-way street....We got ripped off," Trump said.

He added that the relationship between China and the U.S. would have to improve under his tenure as president. Trump claims that China has no respect for President Barack Obama and have even less respect for "crooked Hillary."

Trump targeted China in Pittsburgh where several major steel companies have been affected by cheap Chinese steel imports.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Steel Corporation called on Washington to completely ban steel imports from China. The steel company, also based in Pittsburgh, has accused Chinese steel companies of stealing trade secrets of U.S. companies and fixing prices.

The excessive dumping of cheap Chinese steel has become one of the major issues in the U.S. presidential campaign. Even Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has taken a swipe at China for allowing steel overproduction. Hillary promised her supporters that she would go tough on China if she is elected U.S. president.

There have been trade tensions between China and the U.S. in the past few months. Chinese technology companies Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp. are currently being probed by the U.S. Commerce Department scanner for alleged export violations to sanctioned countries. Chinese trade experts have said the investigation is motivated by trade protectionism.
