As the direct sequel to Sniper Elite III, the game is set to release for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is scheduled to be released on 14 February 2017.

The Sniper Elite 4 release will be delayed until February 2017. The original release date of the game was set for anytime in the current year. Rebellion decided to postpone the popular sniper series due to an unexpected increase in competition for a small independent studio.

The company released an official teaser video for the game months ago. However, the delay is unlikely to go over well with the fans, who are excited for the game's new levels, iDigital Times reported. Jason and Chris Kingsley, co-founders of Rebellion, offered an explanation in the press release regarding the launch delay.

Rebellion's Battlezone will be released in October with the PlayStation VR. The release of two major titles in the same quarter is not a practical decision for a small studio.

Sniper Elite 4 is set in World War II Italy, in 1943. The player will take part in the game as Karl Fairburne, an OSS agent with a mission to aid the Italian resistance and take down the fascist government. Rebellion recreated the feel of the period, as seen from the footage and screenshots.

The delayed release is also due to the integration of enhanced features for the game. The studio is does not want to overload its employees.

The game is expected to include single and multiplayer battles, multiplayer co-operative mode, and larger maps. According to reports, rumours that the game can be played in VR have yet to be confirmed, due to a strange listing for E3 2016.

Sniper Elite 4 is compatible with PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Rebellion released a dozen screenshots of the game this week. The screenshots show Improved iterations of the franchise, including different gameplay mechanics.
