With a month to go before the highly anticipated Rio Olympic Games kick off, badminton men's singles world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei is believed to be the likely winner of the Olympic event, a victory which has been eluding the Malaysian shuttler.

At the age of 33, the Kuala Lumpur-based badminton player enjoys an impressive collection of 64 titles and over 640 professional victories. Lee has been a winner of many competitions but is still looking to find the missing piece of his brilliant career - an Olympic gold medal.

Lee, a two-time Asia Badminton Championship winner, is now the highest-ranked men's single badminton player in the world. He exceeded China's Chen Long, with 94,453 ranking points, after securing the 11,000 maximum ranking points when he bagged his record-tying sixth Indonesia Open in Jakarta.

Lee established a margin of 5,509 points, as the former world No. 1 Chen gathered a total of 88,944 ranking points in 14 tourneys in which he has competed. Lee hopes to save the best for last by winning the men's singles event in Rio.

"The Rio Games might be my last Olympic Games, and I will try my best to win the gold medal," the native of Bagan Serai, Perak said following his historical victory in Jakarta.

During Lee's career, he has made the Olympic men's singles final twice, but he failed to capture his long-desired gold-medal finish, as he was beaten twice by his chief nemesis - Lin Dan of China - in the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Games.

For Lee, Rio de Janeiro will be either a joyful celebration or a sad farewell.
