After their successful campaign in the recently concluded 2016 FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the Chinese women's national basketball team is finally home after securing an Olympic spot in the upcoming Rio Games this August.

The national squad was warmly welcomed upon returning from Nantes France on Tuesday. The Chinese had secured their hard-earned ticket to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games following their impressive 84-70 quarterfinals victory over the World No. 10 Belarus last Friday.

China finished third overall in the tournament with France claiming the top spot and Turkey ending up as the second-place of the Olympic qualifying basketball event. World No. 3 also made the final cut finishing fourth and Belarus got the better of the South Koreans to take the last and final fifth slot for the prestigious quadrennial sporting event.

In the coming Rio Games, the Asian giants were placed in Group B that includes Spain, Senegal, Canada, Serbia and the United States. The world No. 9 Canadians will be the first game assignment of the Chinese national team that will take place on August 6.

"The big thing is to try to win the first game against Canada, so we need to concentrate on the tournament's first game," China's head coach Tom Maher said.

"Every game we play, we get better and better. This team is still young, and I think this team's age group is usually proper for the next Olympics in Japan," the veteran Australian bench tactician added.

China currently ranks No. 8 in the FIBA World Rankings.  The Chinese national team was able to appear in eight different Olympics Games with their best performance of winning the silver medal in 1992 in Barcelona, Spain and with a bronze medal finish in 1984 in Los Angeles in the United States.

China is the only Asian country that was able to be included in the list of top ten women's basketball powerhouse in the world.
