The midseason clash of two of the 2016 Chinese Super League season's strongest squads ended with a convincing 2-0 win for five-straight defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC (11-1-3, 36 points) over Jiangsu Suning FC (8-2-5, 29 points) in their round 15 game last Friday, June 24 at the Tianhe Stadium.

Brazilian import Ricardo Goulart scored the opening goal of the contest with a header at the 24th minute off an assist by fellow Brazilian and foreign player Alan Carvalho, as per Soccerway. The score was doubled only four minutes later when it was Alan's turn to score a goal with the pass coming from winger Huang Bowen.

The Southern China Tigers' two quick first goals were proven to be enough to come away with the victory as the team's defense was able to shut out powerhouse squad Jiangsu Suning.

It was the 14th consecutive unbeaten effort for the team of World Cup-winning head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari as they only lost once in the term so far, a 1-2 defeat to Chongqing Lifan during their season-opener in March.

Guangzhou had somehow been on a slump, though, as they had drawn three of their last five matches following a nine-game winning streak, the longest so far by anytime this season.

The Tianhe residents are still on top of the 16-team China top flight table as they "secure the half-way championships" after 15 rounds of competitions in the country's first division domestic competitions, China.org reported.

Meanwhile, Jiangsu snapped their four-game undefeated run following the loss, which was also the team's second in their last six outings.

The Nanjing giants had been under the guidance of interim head coach Tang Jing since former manager Dan Petrescu was sacked on June 3. It was the team's first loss with Tang after he led them to two wins and draw in his first three games with the club.

Incoming head coach Choi Yong-soo, formerly of FC Seoul, is set to replace Tang on July 1 and will then lead Jiangsu in their round 16 match versus Liaoning Whowin the day after.

Jiangsu is currently at the third spot of the league table, seven points behind Evergrande and only a point below second-running squad Hebei China Fortune.
