After a disappointing Saturday loss to Turkey, the Chinese men's national volleyball squad bounced back in the 27th edition of the FIVB Volleyball World League Group 2 tournament with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-20) victory over Japan at the Xuancheng Sports Center on Sunday.

According to the FIVB, this was China's 10th triumph over Japan out of the 27 official World League matches that the two national teams have played against each other. The last time that the Chinese side defeated the Japanese squad in a World League match in the year 2008 with a 3-2 victory in Hangzhou.

"I am satisfied with the result today. China has played with Japan many times, and we are all familiar with each other as we were engaged in the fight during the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tokyo in May," China's national head coach Xie Guochen said after the match. "We switched our players in this match to give the young ones a chance to temper themselves. Japan are a tough squad, and I hope they will gain better results in the future."

With the victory, the world's 19th-ranked Chinese spikers improve to a 4-5 win-loss record while garnering 12 match points. China wrapped up their 2016 World League campaign with a sixth place finish in the 12-squad Group 2 of the prestigious men's annual volleyball event.

China concluded the Xuancheng leg of the tourney in second place after a 2-1 showing. They defeated Slovakia (3-0) and lost to Turkey (3-0) before bouncing back with a win against Japan.
