BMW has officially unveiled their new entry-level sedan, the BMW 1 Series, which debuted at the 2015 Guangzhou Auto Show as part of the German automaker's Compact Sedan concept.

BMW has also announced that the four-door 1 Series Sedan will be developed exclusively for the Chinese market.

The model was the brainchild of a collaboration between BMW and its Chinese affiliate Brilliance Auto and will be manufacture in China, where it will take on other premium compact sedans such as the Mercedez-Benz CLA and Audi A3, according to Motor Authority.

Much like BMW's 2 Series Active Tourer, the 1 series also features the UKL front-wheel-drive technology, however it is yet to be confirmed by the company.

BMW has not revealed any additional details about the vehicle's powertrain or dimensions. However, there are reports that the model will share the same powertrain as the 2-Series, which comes in three as well as four-cylinder engines in addition to a plug-in hybrid variant. An all-wheel drive function has also not been ruled out in the new 1 Series.

BMW said that the new 1 Series has been designed and developed by Chinese engineers bearing in mind China's road and climatic conditions on different terrains across the country. The exclusive model has also been fine-tuned and improvements have been made as per Chinese customers' habits and vehicle-use environment.

While the rest of the world won't be getting their hands on the new sedan, the car's design as well as its interiors are likely to include the same elements as the next-generation 1 Series hatchback, which will also probably be based on the UKL platform.

There is speculation that the Bavarian automaker's next-generation 2 Series Coupe and convertible models will also feature the same technology.

Here's what the car looks like:
