China dismissed three officials because of their "inadequate response" when the deadly Typhoon Nepartak struck the country, Chinese state media reported on Monday.

Even though Typhoon Nepartak had weakened to a tropical storm when it hit eastern Fujian province last week, at least 83 people were reported dead while 19 others went missing. Furthermore, thousands of Chinese citizens were also left homeless, and the typhoon caused economic losses amounting to more than 7.1 billion yuan ($1.06 billion), according to Xinhua.

The officials sacked from their duties are from Minqing County, the worst-hit area, where an estimated 73 people died, 17 people are missing, and 11 towns and townships lost electricity and telecommunication services. The deputy party chief and acting head Huang Shiyang, as well as two other lower ranking officials, were suspended from their posts.

Typhoon Nepartak also toppled around 10,000 houses in eastern Fujian province's capital, Fuzhou over the past week, according to the Washington Post.

Meanwhile, the provincial government has allocated 170 million yuan ($25.37 million) for relief aid to the affected locations.

Nepartak made landfall in China on July 9, and authorities estimate that nearly half a million people have been evacuated.

The southern part of China has been experiencing its worst flooding in recent years following weeks of torrential rainfalls since June along the Yangtze River. At least 230 people have been killed, and dozens left unaccounted for.

Meanwhile, the Typhoon Nepartak also badly affected Taiwan, causing three deaths and forcing thousands of people to be evacuated.
