After several months of silence, social networking giant Facebook is once again stirring up the Chinese tech industry after it successful lured an executive from Chinese tech giant WeChat.

Last month, WeChat product manager Dan Grover announced that he is leaving the company. Despite the announcement, Grover did not specify what he will be doing next or whether he will be joining a new company.

According to the latest developments, it appears that Grover has been picked up by Facebook. It is still unclear what Grover's new role will be now that he is part of the largest social networking platform in the world. Considering Grover's experience with WeChat, it is rumored that he will be working with Messenger, probably to create its chatbot platform, according to Venture Beat.

The recent news has been interpreted by many analysts in different ways. Some claim that this might indicate that Facebook is attempting to re-enter the Chinese social networking market. On the other hand, some have downplayed the possibility since the WeChat executive was working on the company's international division which has not made a significant impact towards WeChat's global expansion.

There are some speculations in the tech community that the recent poach is simply a sign of just how interested Facebook is in re-entering China. However, the biggest hurdle facing international tech giants like Facebook is China's strict censorship laws which require companies to self-censor their contents especially the ones that deal with highly sensitive subjects.

The same censorship laws are what prompted China to block contents from tech giants like Twitter and YouTube in 2009, according to Forbes.
