Arsenal legend Tony Adams has rejected an offer to coach the team's Under-18 side and has chosen, instead, to take up a coaching job with Chinese club Chongqing Lifan, the Telegraph reported.

Tony Adams is reported to have traveled to China to negotiate a deal with Chongqing last week. It is likely that the former Arsenal captain will be hired as Chinese club's head of youth development on a lucrative contract. Chongqing Lifan F.C. is currently ranked 13th in the Chinese Super League table.

Tony Adams' decision to settle for a coaching job in China will come as a huge blow for Arsenal's manager Arsene Wenger, who rejected a proposal to hire another Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry. Wenger had put a condition that Henry will have to choose between his present job as a commentator with Sky channel and coaching Arsenal's under-18 team.

According to the Telegraph, Henry was bidding for a coaching job with the under-18 team to secure a UEFA pro license. The former Arsenal legend allegedly even agreed to coach for free.

Wenger's snub of Henry opened the door for Adams, who agreed to take a trail session on Wenger's insistence. Tony Adams continued with trail session only for three weeks until he got an offer from Chinese club.

Adams would be the latest high-profile name in the football world to take up a coaching job in China. Sven Eriksson and Felipe Scolari are currently the two most high-profile coaches in the Chinese Super League.

A month ago, speculations were rife that Chinese clubs are chasing former England manager Roy Hodgson after he resigned following England's shocking defeat to Iceland in the Euro Cup.
