The first batch of Chinese athletes from the women's football, swimming, and table tennis team have arrived in Sao Paulo's prominent Esporte Clube Pinheiros, the training base of China's contingent to the upcoming Rio Olympic Games.

A total of 17 teams from China will use the club in Brazil's most populous city to train and acclimatize as well as recover from jet lag ahead of the prestigious quadrennial Games, Xinhua reported.

About half of the Chinese athletes at Rio 2016 will go to the training base. The number of people in Sao Paulo is expected to total around 400, including athletes, coaches, supporting staff and officials.

Aside from China, Great Britain is also outside the city of Rio de Janeiro preparing for the big sporting event. The British athletes will be using the Minas Tenis Clube in Belo Horizonte as their pre-Games base.

China will be sending a contingent of 416 athletes, including 35 Olympic gold medal winners, to Rio. This is the largest-ever Olympic delegation China has sent overseas. A number of 256 women and 160 men comprise the delegation, which will be representing the country in 210 fixtures and over 26 different sporting disciplines, Yahoo Sports reported.

At the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, United Kingdom, a contingent of 396 Chinese athletes competed and ended up in second place behind the United States, which had 530 athletes, in the medals table. China took home a total of 88 medals; 38 gold, 28 silver and 22 bronze.

China is planning to scrape up most of its golds from six the sporting disciplines where the country usually dominates - badminton, table tennis, gymnastics, shooting, weightlifting, and diving. These sports gave the country 36 of its 51 gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games, while in 2012, China won 27 of its 38 gold medals from these sports.
