After denying for days that they were working with Apple on a new project, the members of the iconic band U2 finally revealed that they did partner with the tech company for the release of their new album.

The announcement was made during the Apple iPhone 6 launch last September 9.

In the said announcement, the band stated that their new album "Songs of Innocence" will be available on iTunes for free.

The said album has 11 songs, which includes the lead single "The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)", which the group also performed in the Apple event.

After performing the said single, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated, "Wasn't that the most incredible single you ever heard? We would love a whole album of that." After the introduction, he had a scripted exchange with Bono in order to announce that the whole album was free for download on iTunes.

For the album, U2 worked with well-loved bands such as Danger Mouse with Paul Epworth, Ryan Tedder, Declan Gaffney and Flood.

Exclusive to iTunes users, the album will be free until its official release on October 14 of this year. The full-length album is also streamed for free on Beats Music.

Despite being highly anticipated and the group's unprecedented move to give it for free, "Songs of Innocence" will not be eligible to be nominated for the next Grammy Awards.

A rep from the award-giving body shared, "The album must be commercially available in order for it to be eligible, and the official release date determines its eligibility in a particular awards year. In this case, the album is commercially available on Oct. 14, 2014, so it will be eligible for consideration for the 58th Grammy Awards."

Bono shares of the new album, "We wanted to make a very personal album. Let's try to figure out why we wanted to be in a band, the relationships around the band, our friendships, our lovers, our family. The whole album is first journeys - first journeys geographically, spiritually, sexually. And that's hard. But we went there."
