The duo fought to overcome a 5-5 tie in the opening set before the 29-year-old Yue scored a pair of aces to push the Asian giants up at 8-5. After the Chinese pair successfully extended their lead to 15-9, the Australians fought back and pulled within two points 18-16. However, Wang and Yue immediately extinguished the fire and ran off with three points in a row to wrap up the first set.

In the second set of the match, the Chinese duo jumped to an early 6-2 lead and never looked back to run away with the victory, Sina reported.

"It's our first Olympics and we're here to enjoy the Games," said Yue Yuan. "We are very happy with our performance so far and we'll see how far we can go."

Wang and Yue have secured a second-place finish in Pool C with an impressive 2-1 win-loss record and a berth in the 16-team knock-out stage. Their only loss so far was to Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross of the United States.

The Chinese pair lost to the Americans with a 21-16, 21-9 straight defeat on Monday.

"The results have changed nothing," the 22-year-old Wang Fan said. "We'll continue to enjoy beach volleyball and enjoy ourselves and try to do the best we can."
