Chinese smartphone maker Alcatel has announced that its latest flagship device - the Alcatel Pop Star smartphone - is now available in South Africa for R1,799 (approximately $135.81 / Rs. 9068.71).

The Alcatel Pop Star smartphone features a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS LCD capacitive display screen. The device is powered by a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor clocked at a speed of 1 GHz. It comes with 1 GB of RAM onboard, and it has a built-in 8GB internal memory storage, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via a dedicated microSD card slot.

On the camera side, the Alcatel Pop Star sport an 8-megapixel primary shooter that supports 3264 x 2448 pixels resolution, face detection, touch focus, Geo-tagging, panorama autofocus, HDR, and LED flash. It has a 5-megapixel front facing camera capable of recording videos up to 1080 pixels resolution at 30 frames per second.

The Alcatel Pop Star smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system out of the box coupled with Alcatel's customized user interface on top of it. It is backed by a Li-ion 2000 mAh capacity battery. Other features the device offers include 2G Network (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 SIM 1 & SIM 2), 3G Network (HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100), and 4G Network (LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800)).

The handset also supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b /g/n, dual-band, hotspot, Bluetooth v3.0, micro USB v2.0, and GPS with A-GPS support. The device measures a body dimension of 141 x 71.5 x 8.6 mm (5.55 x 2.81 x 0.34 in). The Alcatel Pop Star smartphone will be available in slate and white color.
