Health authorities across the United States on March 10, issued some guidelines governing the prescription and distribution of pain killers across the country. This endeavor is an effort to tackle the increasing number of overdose incidents in the US, which accounts for about 40 deaths among Americans every day.

Researchers have come up with a procedure that they believe open the possibility of developing treatment for patients who are unable to feel pain. The procedure can also allow medics help patients manage chronic pain.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently updated its warnings for prescription and over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) because of increasing chances of heart attack or stroke. These drugs include ibuprofen, which are sold under brand names Advil, Motrin and Midol; naproxen (Aleve) and the prescription arthritis drug Celebrex.
