Despite the decision to halt the development and production of its Band device, Microsoft said that users of the smart wearable device will still continue to assistance through the company's customer support channels. The company added that it would continue investing in the Microsoft Health platform.

In addition to the discontinuation of the Band 2 smart wearable device, the band's software development kit (SDK) has also been pulled from online platforms, according to Ars Technica. There are also reports that Microsoft will be disbanding the Band development team.

Microsoft released the first version of the Band smart wearable device in 2014. The device was an initial hit due to its unique combination of sensors and functionality. The device also came with various helpful software, as well as support for several cloud services. The device is also compatible with Android, iPhone, and Windows Phone devices.

The Microsoft Band, which is a fitness tracker, was eventually overshadowed when smartwatches began to attract attention in the market. As a fitness tracker, it lacks important features that are integrated into a smartwatch, and it costs a bit more compared to other fitness trackers on the market.

The second version of the device, Band 2, did not overcome the deficiencies of its predecessor. Despite the fact that Microsoft added new sensors and functions to the device, it still occupies the middle ground between an affordable fitness tracker and a real smartwatch.
