Paracel Islands: One Time, One Life

Paracel Islands is an archipelago composed of 32 islands, eight lagoon islands, a platform reef and an isolated submerged reef in the South China Sea. These islands lie about 330 km southeast of Hainan Island, China. As most of the Islands are low, and less than 2.5 square kilometers, they are definitely not perfect habitats for human beings. However, just because being away from permanent human residents, most of the islands still remain an untouched beauty.

Yongxing Island is the largest island of the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea. Though being the largest island among the Paracel Islands, it fact, the total area of this island is just 2.13 square kilometers. The whole island is overspread by white coral sand, which makes the beach a fairyland full of undefiled sand and clear sea.

These tropical plants stand by both sides of the roads like sentries. The coconut palms bloom and brim over with prime plump coconuts. Though there are plenty of coconuts all over the island, nobody can pick off these fruits at will. People who pick up coconuts could be fined up to 50 yuan.

Walking through the coconut grove of the portion, visitors can come across some soldiers mowing the lawn or cleaning the leaves from coconut palms. The ripe coconuts will be taken away by the soldiers as well. The whole Yongxing Island seems like a giant park, tidy and clean.
