Nerlens Noel Sprains Ankle in Season Debut Against Pistons

The severely undermanned Philadelphia 76ers visited the Detroit Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Sunday and was able to snatch a win. Making his much anticipated debut this season is Nerlens Noel who, unfortunately, may have been injured again.

Noel managed to score eight points in 10 minutes of his season debut. However, with less than a minute remaining in the opening quarter, Noels took a hard foul and fell in a rather awkward manner. Initial reports said that Noel suffered a left ankle sprain and was not able to get back into the game. The Sixers organization has yet to release the official medical status of Noel, although he said during the postgame interview that he should be able to play in his team's next game.

In a statement acquired by CSN, Noel said, "It's a tough little break, but it's a minor thing so I'll probably be back by the next game."

The Sixers had two of its starting men out in the game against the Pistons. Rookie sensation Joel Embiid sustained a right elbow inflammation and is resting, while starting point guard Sergio Rodriguez was out because of gastroenteritis.

Despite missing some of its key players, the Sixers managed to pull off a 97-79 win against the Pistons.

According to NBA.com, leading the Sixers was Robert Covington with 16 points and seven rebounds. Ersan Ilyasova added 15 points and eight assists, while T.J. McConnell recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Marcus Morris led that Pistons with 28 points. Andre Drummond has 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Reggie Jackson added another 10 points.
