Thus, it becomes a controversial topic among some parents. "Moring class should be the time for reciting Chinese traditional essays and poems. How come the school let the students recite Obama's speech?" Some parents questioned.

3000 juniors recite Obama's speech during morning class

7 o'clock in the morning, more than 3000 junior student of Shouchun Middle School in Hefei took out a transcript issued by the school as reading materials of their morning class. The transcript is U.S. President Barack Obama's speech at the convocation ceremony of Wakefield High School on September 8th, 2009.

The speech entitled "Prepared Remarks of President Barack Obama: Back to School Event" is very popular on the Internet. In the speech, President Obama suggested students to think about why they should go to school, by telling his own personal experience and some other American people's heroic deeds. President Obama said: "That's the opportunity an education can provide." He told students, maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor, maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or a new medicine or vaccine, but you might not know it until you do a project for your science class.

Besides, President Obama said in the speech: "The circumstances of your life, what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you've got going on at home, that's no excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude." Everyone should take responsibility for himself or herself. At last, Obama said: "Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who've had the most failures." "You have to let failures teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently next time."

Vice principal believes education is common all over the world

Vice principal Sun Yeqing was the one who proposed to send such a transcript to the students of Shouchun Middle School. Sun said he was totally inspired by Obama's speech when listening to it one year ago. He believes interest is the best teacher. "I was touched by Obama's speech. His speech is very specific and vivid. The starting point is individuals and families, which is easy for our students to accept his point of view."
