Jon Stewart, a comedian and the host of "The Daily Show", reportedly had talks with the president of NBC News and was offered to host the currently running "Meet the Press," a report that has been a hot topic on Twitter Wednesday afternoon.

The report was initially run by a certain Gabriel Sherman who noted that the news came from three sources, who wanted to maintain anonymity. The sources allegedly tipped that NBC News president Deborah Turness held a meeting with Stewart.

Turness allegedly said that she was willing to pay a hefty amount of money to Stewart just so he would host the said show, adds the sources.

NBC News political director Chuck Todd was the one who reportedly stepped into the position as Turness fired the former host, David Gregory, in August. Gregory reportedly lost his post because the news network wanted to overhaul the show as it has been having disappointing ratings.

Todd allegedly debuted as the new host in September as he always questioned Washington lawmakers form in his show "The Daily Rundown" being aired on MSNBC.

However, Todd being a replacement of Gregory was said to be not welcome among media critics as they suggested that a great overhaul would be to have a fresher segment and a much different approach.

More than one from the said critics then enlisted Stewart as a model who could bring in fresh ideas on the table. Stewart was suggested as he could lure younger viewers because of his humor and his integrity as a well-established journalist.

Allegedly, Turness liked the idea however, no comments from NBC News has been released yet. Stewart also has not commented on the validity of the rumors.

"Meet the Press" is the longest-running television series in the United States, having been around since 1974 and having already had 12 hosts.

The show's format consists of a one-on-one interview between the moderator and notable members of the society such as people from the Congress, both from the Democrats and the Republicans, as well as political commentators. The nature of the show is an argumentative dialogue regarding topics that concern the citizens.
