"Saturday Night Live" Stalwart Jan Hooks Dies At Age 57

A "Saturday Night Live" comedic standout from 1986-1991, Jan Hooks died following a long battle with an undisclosed disease.

Renowned for spot-on impressions of the likes of Betty Ford, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Jodie Foster, she was best known for an outrageous rendition of Tammy Faye-Baker when that controversial and make-up challenged televangelist was all the rage. She also did a mean Ivana Trump and Sinead O'Connor.

The 57-year-old Hooks was part of a popular late-1980s entering SNL class also including Dana Carvey, Victoria Jackson, and the late Phil Hartman. She acted alongside vin Nealon on many skits and Jon Lovitz, Nora Dunn, A. Whitney Brown and Dennis Miller.

Nealon, who dated her before they became cast members together, said she was "totally amazing as a sketch-player."

Hooks left SNL for a turn at "Designing Women." Her last long gig before taking ill was a role as Jenna Maroney's trashy mom Verna on "30 Rock." That role drew a lot from her Decatur, Ga. birth followed by Atlanta upbringing.

Reaction to Hooks' death was heartfelt and moving. Numerous celebrities shared their thoughts on social media.  Paul Feig, "Bridesmaids" director said he was incredibly sad for Hooks who was one of his favorite SNL actors, adding, "So funny. A sad day for comedy."
