Louisiana Infant Rescued After Days of Being Trapped Under Father's Dead Body

A 10-month-old Louisiana baby was trapped under the decomposing body of her father for three days but was rescued by authorities and is now being monitored at a hospital in the area, officials confirmed on Saturday.

Sabine Parish Deputy Coroner Ron Rivers said that the baby, identified as Betty Jean Fields, was dehydrated after being retrieved but was able to breathe and expand her chest up and down shortly after being given the necessary aid. Rivers added that they are very blessed the baby survived the unfortunate event.

The infant was taken to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana and is expected to recover fully from the incident.

Rivers said that the father, 43-year-old Jason Fields, was found dead on a bed alongside a laptop computer at their home located in Pleasant Hill, Indiana. The baby was reportedly trapped between the dead father's body and the headboard of the bed. Jason was said to have had a heart condition and it is believed that a sudden cardiac arrest caused his death.

The house also did not have any air conditioning whatsoever making the temperature another major factor for the baby's dehydration. Rivers noted that when police entered the house the temperature was over a hundred degrees.

According to authorities, emergency services were called in after Fields' five-year-old son alerted neighbors as to his father's plight. No reports were given regarding the state of the young boy, whose name was not released to the press.

At the time of Fields' death, the mother of the two children was said to be in jail due to misdemeanor charges. However, she was released on Saturday by officials as she had to take care of the two children.
