Delays on three executions have been requested in Oklahoma as more time is needed to obtain the necessary drugs for the punishment, confirmed Attorney General Scott Pruitt in a notice on Friday.

The notice was forwarded to the proper officials and it has been stated that they are requesting for a delay until the year 2015 as the Oklahoma Department of Corrections is also currently training staff members in lethal injection protocols.

The executions of Richard Eugene Glossip, John Marion Grant, and Charles Warner are asked to be rescheduled not earlier than January 15, 2015. Warner was set to die on April 29 this year while Glossip and Grant were slated to die on November 13.

However, due to the botched execution of Clayton Lockett earlier this year, no further executions were conducted until after the case was to be reviewed.

According to eyewitnesses, Lockett, a convicted murderer, struggled to get out of the gurney for almost an hour, making it difficult for the team to find the right veins in his arms, legs, feet, and even in his neck. The team then attempted to inject the lethal drug into his groin, however, they instead injected the sedative into the tissues, causing him to have a heart attack and die.

As result, the state of Oklahoma does not want to rush the new team as they undergo training in execution protocol in what is a newly remodeled death chamber, Pruitt added.

The chamber located at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester, Oklahoma was remade just this October and reportedly cost US$71,000. It now has a wider space so executioners can work better and has also been equipped with new audio and video equipment.

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and Oklahoma Department of Corrections Director Robert Patton also released statements on Monday regarding the request for the delay of the executions, noting that the additional time will help them better train the execution team.

Meanwhile, the three who are to be executed are among the 21 inmates included on Oklahoma's death row list.
